Day 56 - Framing complete

We have been invoiced for the frame stage, and the builders inspection is due to happen today, it will be reviewed Friday by RH (our fill in SS, who has been great). Any remediation work will be done Monday and Tuesday, and our inspector from www.justinspections.com.au will check it out on Wednesday morning.
The bulkhead that appeared to block the hallway, over the stairs down to the family room, has been proactively removed from the hallway by CG on the recommendation of RH who thought it was an unfortunate oversight.

Our youngest has inspected the house and is giving it the thumbs up. He particularly liked the fact that not only is the frame complete, quite a number of the window and door frames are in, the plumbing supply to the wet areas is done and it all looks a treat.
Comparing the frontal view, looking from the hallway, now to the original, looking towards the front, you can see it is a vast improvement, as the original 950mm bulkhead has been removed and replaced with the unfortunate 300mm ceiling drop

The roof tiles and gutters have all arrived, so we are hopeful that the roof will be next and soon, quickly followed by the walls

  1. That original bulkhead was ridiculous! Well done on getting it rectified.

    1. To be fair I had hardly warmed up in my rant before the offer to rectify, at no cost, was made.
However it pointed out that the kitchen bulkhead has the same issue and that I need to pay to correct that, at cost, which will work out to be about $400 for both the rework (though I notice the work hasn't been done yet) and the redrawing of the plans. While it all adds up, I would prefer to just pay the money and keep the project running rather than being too hard nosed and delaying my build while causing bad blood with the people I most need in order to finish the job.

  2. True. Unforeseen (and perhaps unforseeable) problems will crop up during the build, and accepting that this does happen is a necessary part of building. $400 sounds reasonable for your kitchen bulkhead issue.

  3. Just read your blog, very informative. I am considering a custom build with Cartergrange, do you have to use their facades and do they only build on concrete slabs.

    1. They only build on slabs, my original preference was to build on stumps but that couldn't be accommodated at the time. Really worth while asking again, as they are evolving all the time.

As to the facades, they are fairly flexible. We have different standard facades to the ground floor and the 1st floor, and I have seen houses they have built with greater variations, different window shapes, additional windows, etc.
If you know what you want, put it to them, my experience has been they will do it if they can.
