  1. Are you allowing Carter Grange to use your house as a display home? Do they give you any discount or incentive for this?

House looks great btw, we are thinking of using CG to build our house. I have been following your blog regularly.

    1. It suited me as I wanted to tame the mud pit that the house was in, prior to moving in - I also thought I would end up with little in the way of defects and a longer warranty, and additionally Alison told me there would be a 13 week lead time to get the furniture she wanted.

It was a bit of luck that CG thought the house would help portray their capabilities in perhaps a slightly different light to some of their other displays.
The offer to use as a display house came close to the very end of the build, so had no impact of the work already done, which was basically everything bar a slap of paint

  2. Great Blog, very informative. We have just met the sales team so very early days. During your tender process, were you able to negotiate on prices of upgrades ?

    1. Not really. We looked in terms of what we needed now, and what the cost of later replacement would be. But we had dealt with Henley / Mainvue before and CG were just such a breath of fresh air - we have already got two of our friends to sign up with them, one has been assigned the excellent supervisor we had and we couldn't have been happier with Rod

  3. it doesn't hurt to look at alternatives for all offered items, for instance the cost of hiring (or even buying your own safety fence. I have seen houses with just the standard lights throughout, once the wiring is done you can upgrade the fittings later - these are the types of things you can negotiate on, but at the end of the day CG do need to make a profit and if you get too keen then the job may not be worth their while. I really think I got a top product at a reasonable price, probably very reasonable.
