Day 1 - Ready to build

House has now been demolished, http://cgbuild.blogspot.com.au/p/demolition-starts.html, and the block has been split leveled,
we even have a fence up.

This is a good time perhaps to point out that no care whatsoever is going to be applied to your "crossover", that is the footpath and driveway.  Make sure you know how much this will cost to repair as I am fairly certain that the standard contract will not cover the actual repair cost that the council will require you to pay.  I am a little annoyed that while the demolishers made some attempt to protect the footpath with old tyres and timber, the CG appointed levellers just carved up the driveway and footpath.
Interesting enough, Melbourne broke its record run of hot days (above 30C) on the first day of build with a downpour.  We need the rain, I just didn't! - not just now - but what do you do? - great potters clay, but no builders on site.

Hopefully something more happening soon

  1. We are at the same stage as you - site cut & fence up yesterday (28 Feb). The race is on!

  2. Hi Moxie,
We can't wish to beat you, though we are in a hurry to get it done. What type of house are you building? We would be really happy to share what we can.

    Cheers

  3. Hi James and Alison, we are also building a custom build Radisson in the east of Melbourne. We are only just starting to demolish so it'll be great to watch how you get on.

  4. Hi hsmema,

Apparently don't go to the new display at Vincent St, it has a Radisson ground floor and I think a metropol 1st Floor. I think it ended up costing me 4K in extras I hadn't thought of and it could easily have been a lot more if we weren't so close (and so far it seems at the moment) from construction. The idea of swapping the bedroom and living room has some appeal, and the external gas point and water point to to the outdoor area could not be passed up

    1. It almost becomes mononpoly money in the end, way too easy to think "lets just get it done now". That is an interesting idea of swapping the bedroom with the living. We've just signed our contract so I'm not sure I should start thinking along those lines...I could fine tune for another 2 years!
